As a member of the Coalition of the Public and Physicians for Sensible Health Care Reform, U.S.A., I resent your callous smearing of physicians as corrupted and hypocritical (``Medicare and Medigate,'' editorial, Feb. 18).
As Congress investigates fraudulent practices in the health-care system, the media must inform the public that a mere 5 percent of the physician population is involved in such practices with insurance companies, hospitals and the pharmaceutical and medical-device industries. The media have a duty to protect the good name of the rest of the medical profession. Without ethical physicians standing up for their patients' rights and quality care, all Americans would have been traded long ago by health-care businessmen in the futures of the Chicago Board of Trade.
