Joseph Michael Kirsch Sr., 71, of the 400 block of Plummer Drive, died March 11, 1996, in a local hospital.
Mr. Kirsch, a native of Portsmouth, was the retired owner and operator of J.M. Kirsch, Inc. Paint Contractors. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, the Nocturnal Adoration Society, and the Deep Creek Ruritan Club. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Umphlett Kirsch; three sons, Joseph Michael Kirsch Jr. of Chesapeake, Carl David Kirsch of Plaistow, N.H., and Thomas Wayne Kirsch of Norfolk; a brother, Frank B. Kirsch Jr. of Portsmouth; two sisters, Patricia McCotter of Shreveport, La., Peggy Williams of Richmond, Va.; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Holy Angels Catholic Church Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at 7 p.m. by the Rev. James E. Dorson. There will be a reception in the church fellowship hall following the Mass. Burial, with military honors, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangemsnts. Memorial donations may be made to the Ruritan National Foundation and designated for the Joseph M. Kirsch Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Deep Creek Ruritan Club, P.O. Box 6033, Chesapaeake, 23323.
