Ernest Cline Snyder, 93, of Kilmer Lane, died March 11, 1996.
Mr. Snyder retired from Crossroads Elementary School as principal after 20 years he also was assistant principal at Norview High School and was principal at Fincastle High School for 15 years in Botetourt County. He was a native of Troutville, Va., and a member of Ferebee-Halstead Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Roanoke College in Salem, Va., and received his masters degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Va. He was a charter member and life member of Norview Lions Club; recipient of Melvin Jones Fellow for dedicated humanitarian services; member of Tarus Investment Club; and Outstanding Citizen and Educator for Education Association of Norfolk from 1968 to 1969.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Caldwell Snyder; a daughter, Nancy Snyder and her husband, Thomas C. Shoemaker of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Dorothy Evelyn Caudill and Ruth A. Rader, both of Roanoke, Va.; two brothers, Howard V. Snyder of Fincastle, Va., and Carl E. Snyder of Troutville; four grandchildren, Dan A. and his wife, Susan Dixon of New Port Richey, Fla., Dana A. Morgan of Margate, Fla., Michael E. and his wife, Kristi Snyder of Blacksburg, Stacy A. Snyder of Blacksburg; five great-grandchildren, Kendyll and Whitney Dixon of New Port Richey, Alex, Zachary and Marshall Morgan of Margate; and a former daughter-in-law, Georgia Anne Snyder-Falkinham of Blacksburg. He was predeceased by his son, Peter C. Snyder.
The funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, by the Rev. Jonathan W. Beck. A graveside service will be in Trinity Church of the Brethern Cemetery, Troutville, at 11 a.m. Saturday. The body will be taken to Oakey's Funeral Home North Chapel in Roanoke for visitation Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. and the graveside on Saturday. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
