A new election district line will be drawn between Frisco and Buxton along state Highway 1269 to meet federal Census Bureau requirements.
Dare County Board of Elections Supervisor Lynda Midgett said the U.S. Department of Interior granted permission for the county to cross its land to mark a trail dividing the precincts from Highway 12 east to the ocean.
Midgett told the Dare County Board of Commissioners Monday that the Frisco-Buxton precinct was the only one of the county's 16 districts that failed to meet federal standards because it lacked a visible boundary line.
While granting approval for the new line, commissioners rejected a state recommendation to divide Hatteras into two or three townships.
Midgett said the new boundary will ``maintain the status quo'' for voters. by CNB
