I want to disassociate my name from an article which appeared in The Virginian-Pilot on March 2. I never said that a white person should not run in Ward 7. I did say Mr. White has a right to run, as any American has. I did say that I believe that an African American should represent that ward, as the lines were drawn to make it possible to make that happen.
I did say that I believe that the voters in Ward 7 were smart enough and wise enough to make that decision. I did say that I believe the voters in Ward 7 were smart enough and wise enough to elect an African American to represent Ward t. I believe Daun Hester, who is running in Ward 7, has the intelligence, the knowledge and the qualifications to serve on the council as our representative from Ward 7.
