Mrs. Constance Brinkley ``Connie'' Dabney died Friday, March 8, 1996.
She was a native of Portsmouth and had been a Brooklyn resident for over 22 years. She was a social worker for the New York City School System for more than 14 years and was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Brooklyn. Mrs. Dabney was a member of the Women's Guild at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Links Inc., the National Association of Black Social Workers, and the Brooklyn-Hampton Club for Hampton University. She received her bachelor's degree from Hampton Institute and her master's degree from Hunter College School of Social Work in New York City.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Howard R. Dabney; son, Louis R. Dabney, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; mother, Mercedes B. Smith of Portsmouth; three sisters, Claudette B. Kelley and Evelyn B. Orton, both of Portsmouth, and Essie B. Bowie of Norfolk; seven nieces; three nephews; two great-nieces; three great-nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Fellowship United Church of Christ by the Rev. Winston E. Waugh. Inurment will be in Brooklyn. Mrs. Dabney will be placed in church at 1 p.m. Friday. Assembly will be at 917 Mt. Vernon Ave. by 2 p.m. Friday.
