Blackwell was one of many outstanding women graduates honored at the two-day event early this month.

The women are featured in a book, ``Generations of Women Leaders at Virginia Tech.''

Women first enrolled at Virginia Tech in 1921 after the school's president, Julian A. Burruss, convinced the Board of Visitors that all courses, except the military, should be opened to them. The school had been an all-male military school since its inception 49 years earlier. ILLUSTRATION: Photos by CNB
