Ruby Alma Proffitt, 87, died March 13, 1996, in a Portsmouth Hospital.
She was retired from Leggett Department Store in Portsmouth and was the widow of Henry Franklin Proffitt. She was a member of Sweethaven Baptist Church and a native of Gates County, N.C.
She is survived by her daughter, Ruby Jean Garrison of Key West, Fla.; son, Donald Wayne Proffitt of Suffolk; nine grandchildren, Peggy Parker, Charles E. Parker, Janice L. Parker, Wayne Parker, Donald Wayne Proffitt Jr., James Proffitt, Amy Proffitt, Elton Phelps, and Deborah Tippins; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today by the Rev. Lew Hunter and the Rev. Tom Potter in Sweethaven Baptist Church. Burial is in Olive Branch Cemetery. Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, is handling arrangements.
