HENRY P. FRIEDMAN

Henry P. Friedman, 95, of the 200 block of East 41st Street, the retired President of American Steel Equipment, died March 16, 1996, in a Virginia Beach hospital.

Mr. Friedman was a native of Pinsk, Russia, and a longtime resident of Norfolk, He was the son of the late Samuel and Lea Pomarantz Friedman. He was a member of Congregation Beth El in Norfolk. Mr. Friedman was a member of the Zionist Organization of America. He ran the lunch counter at Henrys from 1920 to 1925 and owned the Newport Market Grocery from 1930 to 1940, and the Melrose Cutrate from 1940 to 1955. He retired from American Steel Equipment in 1970.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Reatha Galumbeck Friedman of Norfolk; two daughters, Naomi R. Joynes and her husband, Junie of Virginia Beach, and Sonia B. Auxier and her husband, Willie of Lenexa, Kansas; and two sons, Thomas M. Friedman and his wife, Anne and Captain Marcus V. Friedman and his wife, Ronnie of Virginia Beach; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m.,Tuesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery by Rabbi Arthur Ruberg, Rabbi Lawrence A. Forman and Cantor Jacob Tessler. The family will receive friends at the home of Captain and Mrs. Marcus Friedman following the interment. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beth Sholom Home of Eastern Virginia. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, will be handling the arrangements.
