James Lyman Wood, 37, of the 1100 block of Nansemond Parkway, died March 21 in a Suffolk hospital.
A native of Suffolk, he was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a member of Magnolia Ruritan Club and Huntington Mennonite Church in Newport News.
He is survived by a son, James Andrew Wood of Suffolk; his parents, Frank E. Wood Jr. and Mary Nelms Wood, both of Suffolk; a brother, Frank E. Wood III, of Suffolk; a maternal grandmother, Selma Nelms of Suffolk; a paternal step-grandfather, Walter L. Nicholson of Grandy, N.C.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Meadowbrook Mausoleum Chapel, the Rev. Gerald Showalter and Rev. Tim Piland officiating. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, today from 7 to 9 p.m.
