NORFOLK CANDIDATES WIN SUPPORT OF SCHOOL GROUP

The Representative Council of the Education Association of Norfolk has voted to endorse Dr. Mason C. Andrews and Daun S. Hester in the May 7 election for the Norfolk City Council's two superward seats.

In Superward 6, Andrews, the incumbent, is running against Fred G. Bashara, Charles D. Grant and E. Toles Summers.

In Superward 7, Hester is running against Algie T. Howell Jr., Daniel E. Montague, H. Marks Richard, William E. Swindell and Horace T. ``Tommy'' White. The Rev. Joseph N. Green Jr. is stepping down from his seat in Superward 7.

The Education Association of Norfolk said its endorsements of Andrews and Hester ``were based on public service records, knowledge of the education system and the mechanism of education funding, relative prospects of election and commitment to preserving public education.''

Andrews and Hester both will receive a campaign contribution from the association, and association members will serve as volunteers in their campaigns.

The Education Association of Norfolk's Representative Council is composed of representatives elected by association members from each Norfolk Public Schools building.

The council is the policy-making body of the association. The Education Association of Norfolk represents approximately 1,700 teachers and support personnel employed by Norfolk Public Schools.

Nearly 1,000 association members and spouses live in Norfolk.
