Police on Tuesday plan to present Emory University with a scholarship check for $15,500 in memory of former student Jennifer Lea Evans.
Evans, 21, was slain here last year while on vacation. She was a dean's-list student studying for a medical career. Her dream was to work with injured and ill children.
After her death, police officers Lou Thurston and Mike Carey established a scholarship fund in her name and began collecting contributions. The fund has been filled with private and corporate donations and proceeds from a golf tournament.
Anyone wishing to donate to the fund may drop off a check at the media relations office at police headquarters in the Municipal Center or call the scholarship's voice mailbox at 554-1558.
