Wilma Louise Sample Stevenson, 96, of the 1000 block of W. Church St., died at her residence on Saturday, March 30, 1996.
Born in Manteo, she lived in Elizabeth City for more than 80 years and was a homemaker and a member of Christ Episcopal Church, past president of Christ Episcopal Church Women's Auxiliary, past president of North Carolina Pharmaceutical Auxiliary, a member of Elizabeth City Music Club, Elizabeth City Women's Club, Pasquotank Historical Society, N.C. Museum Association and Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Stevenson was the daughter of the late Augustus Gamble and Mae Shaw Sample, and the widow of John T. Stevenson.
Mrs. Stevenson is survived by two sons, Paul A. Stevenson of Elizabeth City and Richard S. Stevenson of Manila, Philippines; one sister, Augusta Nowlin of Cockeysville, Md.; six grandchildren, Nick S. Stevenson, John T. Stevenson III, P. Lindsay Stevenson, Shelley S. Hill, Brigid S. Jenkins and Rachael Stevenson; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, John T. Stevenson Jr.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Renfro Sproul officiating. Burial will be in Old Hollywood Cemetery. The family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Thompson Children's Home, Charlotte, N.C., or Christ Episcopal Church Memorial Candle Fund. Twiford's Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
