Alton R. Jarman, 82, of S. Kings Bridge Place, died March 31, 1996 in Chesapeake.
Mr. Jarman was a native of Onslow County, N.C. He worked for the American Dredging Company for 20 years and later for Standard Dredging Company, including a two year tour in Egypt, dredging the Suez Canal. He retired after 19 years' service with Norshipco in 1980.
Survivors include his wife of 53 year, Alverta Alcox Jarman, two sons, Ray Jarman of Seaford, Va. and Wayne Jarman of Chesapeake; and two grandchildren, Angela and David. Mr. Jarman is also survived by eight brothers and sisters, Alice Jester and Sally Englehart of Wilmington, N.C., Christine Riggs of Pollacksville, N.C., Penny Phillips of Raleigh, N.C., Benny Jarman of Summerville, S.C., Hugh Jarman of Philadelphia, Hampton Jarman of Brunswick N.C. and William Jarman of Jacksonville, N.C. He was preceded in death by eight additional brothers and sisters.
Mr. Jarman was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, Chesapeake, is handling arrangements. The family will receive friends and relatives after the service at the home of Wayne and Linda Jarman at 2408 Tarkington Court North, Chesapeake.
