DARE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICIAL CHARGED WITH DRINKING AND DRIVING

Charles Hartig of Kitty Hawk, Dare County's official public relations spokesman, has been charged with driving under the influence in Currituck County.

Master Trooper Gerald Johnson of the North Carolina Highway Patrol said Hartig was arrested near Poplar Branch on Thursday and recorded an alcohol level of 0.14 in a Breathalyzer test. The legal alcohol limit in North Carolina is 0.08, Johnson said. The trooper also said that records indicate that Hartig's driver's license expired in 1993 and has not been renewed.
