BLACKS RALLY AGAINST FIRING IN FRANKLIN

ILLUSTRATION: MICHAEL KESTNER photos\The Virginian-Pilot

About 60 people marched in downtown Franklin Tuesday to protest last

fall's firing of Dale R. Cooke, right, as acting city manager. Cooke

has accused four white city officials - the mayor and three City

Council members - and three white members of a citizens group of

discrimination in her termination. At left, the Rev. Marcellus

Harris, local president of the Southern Christian Leadership

Conference, uses a bullhorn to encourage the protesters. The parade

was organized by the Franklin Concerned Citizens.
