Walter A. Turner Sr., 54, of the 300 block of Dorset Ave., died April 2, 1996, in his residence.
He was a native of Portsmouth and a member of Celestial Baptist Church, Portsmouth.
He is survived by his wife, Alice A. Turner; four sons, Marshall T. Artis of Tucson, Ariz., Adrian Artis of Manassas, Va., Eric Artis of Jacksonville, Fla., and Walter Turner Jr. of Portsmouth; two sisters, Lula Porter and Cynthia Griffin, both of Portsmouth; two grandchildren; stepfather, James Spruill of Portsmouth; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Artis of Tucson; godson, Jerry Eley of Portsmouth; aunt; uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Rosa M. Spruill and James Turner.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. Leon J. Boone in Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends will assemble at 344 Dorset Ave., Portsmouth, Saturday at 1:15 p.m. for the procession to the church.
