George Owen Evans Jr., 66, of the 3500 block of Shoreline Drive, died April 8, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
He was a native of Akron, Ohio. He was predeceased by his parents, George Owen Evans and Ruby Lee Lassiter Evans. He was the retired founder of Evans Electric, Portsmouth. Mr. Evans was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the America-Fellowship Masonic Lodge (NU)148, Portsmouth Moose Lodge (NU)898, and the Elks Lodge. He served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita B. Evans; daughter, Teresa E. Anderson of Portsmouth; two sons, Dan R. Evans of Chesapeake and George E. Evans of Portsmouth; sister, Charlene Gardner of Portsmouth; brother, David Evans of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Philip J. Parker. Burial is in Olive Branch Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund or the American Lung Association.
