GROVER B. VINSON

Grover E. Brown Vinson, 47, of the 100 block of Michigan Ave., died April 6, 1996, at Washington Center Hospital, Washington, D.C.

Mr. Vinson was a French teacher at Mount Vernon High School in the Fairfax County public school system for 26 years. He was a native of Chinquapin, N.C. He was the muscic director for several District of Columbia and Northern Virginia choirs and the Howard University Gospel Choir. He was a 1970 graduate of Norfolk State College, majoring in French with a minor in Music. He received his master's degree from the University of Detroit in 1978 and had done some doctoral studies.

Survivors include his stepmother, Doris Vinson of Portsmouth; a sister, Sherrie B. Green of Portsmouth; three brothers, Fenton L. Brown Sr. and James A. Brown Sr., both of Portsmouth, and Charles W. Brown of Kenansville, N.C.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Curtis E. Edmonds. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 5 p.m. today. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Saturday. The family will be at the home of his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Fenton L. Brown Sr., 3113 Camelot Blvd., Chesapeake, and will assemble there for the funeral.
