FINLEY R. JOHNSON

Finley Ruth Johnson, 85, of 113 E. Askewville St., died Wednesday, April 10, 1996, in Wilson, N.C.

He was a native of Bertie County, and a member of the Askewville Baptist Church and of Charity Lodge (NU)5. Mr. Johnson served as mayor of Askewville for 45 years, as a tax consultant for 50 years, a postal employee for 22 years, a farm supply dealer for 25 years, and as a farmer for 33 years.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine Johnson Craig and Lou Lyon Craig, both of Wilson, N.C.; two grandchildren, Marsha Craig Hollar of Sterling, Va., Gerald Grant Craig of Huntersville, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Bradley Craig and Sarah Craig, both of Huntersville.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Askewville Baptist Church by the Rev. Freddie Harris. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Walker Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to the Alma Grey Phelps, Finley R.
