Jimmy Julius Spencer, 61, of the 300 block of Clearfield Ave., died Wednesday, April 10, 1996, at his residence.
Mr. Spencer was born in Columbia, N.C., and was the son of the late Lincoln Vernon Spencer Sr. and Mildred Furlough Spencer. He was predeceased by a sister and a brother, Alethia Ann Spencer and Ronnie Spencer. He had retired as an engineer with Norfolk Dredging Company after 44 years of service. He was a member of Great Bridge Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane S. Simmons of Chesapeake and Kathy Baer of Columbus, Ohio; five sisters, Becky Spruill of Chesapeake, Shelby Bunch of Edenton, N.C., and Ann Voliva, Yvonne Etheridge and Daisy Liverman, all of Columbia; three brothers, L.V. Spencer Jr. and Joseph Wayland Spencer, both of Columbia, and William Clyde Spencer of Hampton; and three grandsons, Mark Alan Simmons Jr., Wesley Scott Simmons and Jacob Aaron Baer.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Great Bridge Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Hal Jones. The body will be sent to Walker Funeral Home, Columbia, for a 2 p.m. Sunday funeral in Sandy Acres Freewill Baptist Church. Interment will be in Azalea Memorial Gardens, Columbia. The family will receive friends at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and at the residence of his daughter, 211 Downing Drive, Chesapeake, at other times.
