NO MAKEUP SATURDAYS

Euclid once said that things that are equal to the same thing are equal to each other. This is not the case in Virginia Beach. Regardless of what is offered in the way of excused absences, it does not excuse the school administration from its refusal to take into consideration all religions. More than one religion observes Saturday as the Sabbath.

To excuse a student from being absent on a makeup day that occurs on a Saturday is immaterial. Saturday should not have been designated as a makeup day in the first place. Would Sunday ever be used as a makeup day? I doubt it. How about Easter week or Good Friday? No way.

We live in a country of various religious beliefs. All beliefs must be respected. All children are equal and deserve to be treated as such.
