When I reported to Oceana Naval Air Station in 1957, Oceana Boulevard (Route 615) was two lanes. Since that time, the only improvement to Oceana Boulevard has been adding shoulders to the road.
The city of Virginia Beach has built Dam Neck Road; four-laned London Bridge Road from Dam Neck Road to General Booth Boulevard; four-laned Holland Road; and four-laned General Booth Boulevard. Now Virginia Beach is talking about four lanes for Birdneck Road and starting up the Southeastern Expressway now called Southeastern Parkway and Greenbelt.
Virginia Beach has worked very hard to keep Oceana Naval Air Station open. With new squadrons arriving in the next few years, it is time to four-lane Oceana Boulevard and the rest of London Bridge Road.
Whatever happened to the plans to extend First Colonial Road to Oceana Boulevard? I though this work was to start in 1996.
Put the money into Oceana Boulevard and London Bridge Road instead of the Southeastern Parkway and Greenbelt. The traffic on Oceana Boulevard is a steady stream most of the time.
Since we fought to keep Oceana Naval Air Station open, let's show the Navy that we want it here. Use our tax dollars to four-lane Oceana Boulevard and the rest of London Bridge Road.
