The North Carolina Board of Transportation has added 98 miles of roads to the North Carolina Department of Transportation Scenic Byways program.
``I am extremely pleased that these particular routes have been recognized as scenic byways,'' Secretary of Transportation Garland B. Garrett Jr. said. ``Each roadway provides travelers a glimpse of North Carolina's beautiful landscape and a new perspective on our state. North Carolinians and visitors will enjoy discovering the riches along our new scenic byways.''
The roadways approved by the board include U.S. 64/264 in Dare County: A seven-mile route that crosses Roanoke Island in Dare County and offers visitation to the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, the Manteo historic waterfront, North Carolina, the Elizabeth II State Historic Site and multi-purpose recreational areas. by CNB
