DEAN TO LEAVE ODU

Richard D. Ringeisen, dean of the College of Sciences at Old Dominion University, has been named vice chancellor for academic affairs at East Carolina University.

His appointment, which was approved Friday by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors, will take effect June 17.

``He brings a wealth of experience as a teacher, an active researcher and an administrator,'' said East Carolina's chancellor, Richard Eakin. ``His clear dedication to excellence in teaching and research will be a valuable asset as he leads academic program development at East Carolina.''

Ringeisen joined ODU in 1993 from Clemson University in South Carolina, where he was head of the math department. He said, ``I am delighted to have the opportunity to join East Carolina University. The university is already well regarded regionally and nationally, and it is clear that it has even higher aspirations. I am looking forward to helping it reach those goals.'' by CNB
