Generosity by Ottawa and solid pitching by Norfolk earned the Tides a 3-1 International League victory Monday.
A seventh-inning error by Ottawa broke a 1-1 deadlock, allowing two runs to score to help the Tides snap a two-game losing streak.
Ottawa saw its four-game winning streak stopped.
The Tides won it when Ottawa first baseman Julian Yan couldn't handle a throw from second baseman Kevin Castleberry with the bases loaded and two out.
Norfolk opened the inning on consecutive base hits by Luis Rivera, Albert Castillo and Gary Thurman who was attempting a sacrifice bunt.
Lynx reliever Bob Baxter (0-1) recovered to strike out Alex Ochoa and Shawn Gilbert. But Yan's error on Kevin Morgan's grounder cost the Lynx the game and gave Baxter the loss.
Tides starter Juan Acevedo (0-1), on the Mets' rehabilation assignment, survived a shaky start but pitched pretty well over the next four innings. In his only other start this season last week against Columbus he was shelled for four runs and seven hits in three innings.
Acevedo allowed one run on four hits, (two doubles and a single in the first), walked two and was charged with two wild pitches.
At the Mets spring training Acevedo was headed to New York but injured his hamstring running the bases on the last day of camp.
Pedro Martinez (1-0) pitched the sixth inning for the win and Derek Wallace earned his first save of the season, pitching the eighth and ninth innings.
AWARD: Tides outfielder Alex Ochoa was named the IL's player of the week.
The period includes the first 11 days of the season, from April 4 through Sunday.
In 10 games, Ochoa had 15 hits and a .405 batting average. The righthanded batter ranks among the IL's top five in slugging percentage (.541) and on-base percentage (.425).
He twice had three or more hits in a game. by CNB
