GEORGE D. NEWKIRK

George Donald Newkirk, 85, a resident of Virginia Beach, died April 20, 1996.

Mr. Newkirk was born in Sampson County, N.C., and was the son of the late Ben and Ella Newkirk. He was a lifetime member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church in Wallace, N.C. Mr. Newkirk was a retired building contractor in this area for many years. He was a honorary member of the Princess Anne Ruritian Club., and a former member of the Oceana Volunteer Fire Department. He was a graduate of Franklin High School in Harrels, N.C.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Rau Newkirk of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Mrs. Eloise R. Innis of Wilmington, N.C., Mrs. Sallie N. Morrison of Willard, N.C.; a brother, Franklin Newkirk of Surf City, N.C. and Augusta, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wells Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Wallace, by the Rev. Ottis King. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. in the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Virginia Beach Rescue Suard, P.O. Box 945, Virginia Beach, Va. 23451, or to charity of choice.
