MONARCHS SHUT OUT 1ST TIME THIS SEASON ODU HANDCUFFED 9-0 BY GEORGE MASON; SOPHOMORE HAS 11 STRIKEOUTS.

George Mason sophomore Shawn Camp pitched a complete-game four-hitter Sunday as the Patriots downed Old Dominion 9-0 - the first shutout loss of the season for the Monarchs.

The victory was the second for George Mason (19-22 overall, 10-5 Colonial Athletic Association) in three weekend games at the Bud Metheny Complex. ODU is 31-12, 11-6.

Camp (4-0) struck out a career-high 11 batters en route to his first shutout.

George Mason jumped out to a 6-0 first-inning lead and never looked back.

Patriots shortstop Brad Midgett singled in two runs in each of the first and eighth innings.

ODU threatened in the second inning, loading the bases with two out only to come away without a run. The Monarchs came up emptyhanded again with two out in the seventh, stranding runners at first and second.

Jason Koch and Ron Walker led the Monarchs with two hits each.

ODU is idle until May 3 when they visit East Carolina. by CNB
