GO ANYWHERE in the world where children live, hand them paper and crayons, and they'll draw.
Play some music, and they'll dance.
Tell a scary or funny or just plain interesting story, and they'll listen.
Children aren't that much different from country to country. The only thing that changes is what they draw, or how they dance, or the language they sing in.
Those similarities and differences will be celebrated at The Children's Creative Adventure from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Virginia Zoological Park in Norfolk.
The multicultural arts festival will include art exhibits, make-and-take creative projects, games, performing artists and storytelling.
Festival organizers are using the continental theme of the zoo's master plan to set up areas where stories, songs and dances of North America, South America, Asia, Africa and Australia will be performed. Children can also learn how to tell stories, dance, sing and play music at various workshops.
Children from public and private schools will show off original artwork in exhibits set up throughout the festival.
The arts festival is a fund-raising event for the Junior League of Norfolk and Virginia Beach and is co-sponsored by WTKR, Channel 3. The cost of the festival includes the admission price to the zoo. Children under 2 get in free. Tickets for children age 2 to 11 are $3. Anyone 12 and older pays $4.
