MATTIE O. CARTER

Mattie Odessa Carter, of the 800 block of Grayson St., died April 20, 1996, at a local hospital.

Mrs. Carter, the widow of Robert Carter, retired from the Housekeeping Department of Lake Taylor Hospital after 20 years of service. She had been retired for 16 years. She was a native of Tyner, N.C., and a member of Greater Metropolitan Church, Norfolk. She was involved in the female usher board (NU)1, stewardess board (NU)1, women's Sunday school class, and Southside Senior Citizen Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Mattie P. McKoy of Norfolk; a son, Jasper C. Carter of Norfolk; a brother, Thomas Boyce of Tyner; three grandchildren, Theresa Ann Carter of Yonkers, N.Y., Sharon P. Daniels of Columbia, S.C., Donald Saunders of Norfolk; a great-grandchild, Isler Carter of Yonkers; a god child, Ebonie Couther of Norfolk; five sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday by the Rev. Thomas J. Tucker Jr. at Greater Metropolitan Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. The body will be placed in the church at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Chatman Funeral Home, Norfolk, is in charge. ILLUSTRATION: Personal photo
