Ruth C. Freed Thornton, 70, of 2212 Harbor Lane, died Monday, April 22, 1996, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
She was retired from civil service, a homemaker, and a member of the Virginia Beach Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, John W. Thornton; a son, John D. Thornton of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Allison Marshburn and son-in-law, Jim Marshburn, of Orlando, Fla.; and a sister, Mary Houk of Wampum, Pa.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Virginia Beach Christian Church, 1053 N. Great Neck Road, by Dr. William E. Austin Jr. Burial will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the Maestas Funeral Home, Baltic Avenue Chapel, today from 7 to 8 p.m.
