Elsie Louise Groves, 67, of the 2400 block of Deerfield Crescent, went to be with the Lord on Sunday April 21, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.
She was a native of Mercer, Maine, and formerly employed as snack bar manager at Miracle Lanes and Portsmouth Bowl. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and its Sonshine Club.
Survivors include her husband, Linwood L. Groves Jr.; two daughters, Linda L. Horner of Cassville, Mo., Deborah L. Sleasman of Chesapeake; three sons, Harvey L. Groves of Portsmouth, Allan L. Groves and Richard L. Groves, both of Chesapeake; a brother, Emery Wills of Raymond, Maine; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. Allen Dooley at Temple Baptist Church. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Temple Baptist Church Building Fund, 1322 N. George Washington Highway, Chesapeake, 23323.
