RICHARD D. LANGLEY

Dr. Richard Douglas Langley, Ph.D., 58, of the 400 block of Biltmore Court, died April 20, 1996. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica, but made the United States his home for the past 30 years.

He attended Kingston College in Jamaica and was commissioned by the Queen and became a captain in the Jamaican National Defense Force. He was aide-de-camp to the brigadier of the Jamaican Regiment. He also was aide-de-camp to the governor general of Jamaica and to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, when she visited Jamaica. He received his Ph.D. in music at Washington University, St. Louis, Mo. in 1974. He also received an associate degree, to teach music, at Trinity College of Music in London, England. In the past he gave concerts in Kingston, Jamaica; Vienna, Austria; and St. Louis, Mo. He was the founder and past owner of Ocean Tumblers Gymnastics School in Chesapeake, Va., and had other business interests in the Tidewater area.

He was affiliated with the Norfolk State University Symphony and was active in the Knights of Columbus at St. Gregory Catholic Church.

He is survived by his parents, the Rev. Alan Douglas and Rosemond ``Rosebud'' Langley of Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada; three daughters, Deborah I. Campbell of Prince Edward Island, Canada, Helen Nicole McMinn of Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, and Jennifer Christine Langley of Louisville, Ky.; two sons, Richard Allen Douglas Langley of Prince Edward Island, Canada, and Andrew Douglas Langley of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Helen Polczer of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, Rosemond Fyfe Langley of British Columbia and Christine Wallner of Austria; and a brother, Roger Langley of Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. He is also survived by five grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Catholic Church on Thursday, April 25, 1996, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Parastas service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 26, 1996, at 10 a.m. The Celebrant will be Father Ronald Hatton. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
