Deford Woodrow Lowe, 83, of Macedonia Road, died April 22, 1996, in Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Lowe was respected as an agricultural leader, having served as past president of Chowan County Farm Bureau and on the North Carolina Farm Bureau board of directors. He was the first representative from northeastern North Carolina to serve on that board. He also served on the state board of the North Carolina Peanut Growers Association. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and served for many years as a trustee and director of music.
Mr. Lowe was the son of the late Richard Floyd and Lottie Harrell Lowe. Survivors include his wife, Carrie M. ``Polly'' Lowe; three daughters, Kay Riddlebarger of Concord, Va., Nelia ``Teeny'' Lane of Hertford, N.C., and Ivy Mitchell of Newport News; three sons, Larry Lowe of Alexandria, Va., Richard ``Dick'' Lowe of Edenton, and Garry Lowe of Knoxville, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Jessie Mae Sexton and Florence Spruill of Roper, N.C., Janie Reynolds of Roxobel, N.C., Gray Goodwin of Edenton, and Dorothy Morris of Whaleyville, Va.; and a brother, Meredith Lowe of Gloucester, Va. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hubert Lowe of Whaleyville, Va., and Glynn Lowe of Roper.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Macedonia Baptist Church in Edenton with the Rev. Bob Young officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Evans Funeral Home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence of Mr. Dick Lowe, 823 Macedonia Road. Evans Funeral Home is serving the Lowe family. Memorials may be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church building fund, 1004 Macedonia Road, Edenton, N.C. 27932.
