THE BUDGET PROCESS - ALL LOCAL CITIES

NORFOLK

Norfolk's proposed operating and capital budgets will be presented to the council Tuesday during its 7 p.m. meeting. The public may attend but may not ask questions.

The city will repeat the budget presentation 7 p.m. Wednesday in council chambers at City Hall, which is when the public may ask questions or offer comments.

CHESAPEAKE

The Chesapeake City Council added an hour to their work session today to discuss the city's operating budget. The work session is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in the 4th floor personnel training room of City Hall. At the regular council meeting at 6:30 tonight, the council will hold the only scheduled public hearing on the proposed operating budget.

VIRGINIA BEACH

The Virginia Beach City Council will discuss school district funding in a budget work session in the City Manager's conference room at 3 p.m. today.

SUFFOLK

The Suffolk City Council will be holding a work session Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Suffolk Municipal Center to discuss the proposed $130 million operating budget. School Board officials will discuss hopes of getting $600,000. The council has proposed giving schools only half of that. The meeting is open to the public but no comment will be taken. A public hearing on the budget will be held on May 1 at 7 p.m.
