An Indiana plastics maker will open a factory in Greensville County near Emporia that will employ about 250 people. Beach Mold & Tool Inc. recently bought a 60,000-square-foot shell building and 15 acres for $900,000. The company's total investment will be about $6 million. The Albany, Ind.-based company produces and sells custom-made plastic parts to manufacturers of appliances, business equipment and consumer electronics. Greensville County Administrator David Whittington said the new jobs should help with the county's unemployment rate, which is usually between 7 percent and 8 percent. The company is hiring semiskilled and skilled workers and will pay $7 to $14 an hour. (Associated Press) Colonial Williamsburg makes staff changes
Two vice presidents will leave Colonial Williamsburg in the next few months. One director's position already has been consolidated in changes to management staff. Norman Beatty, vice president for community and government relations, plans to leave later this year to become a consultant working with organizations to boost Virginia's tourism. James Miles, executive vice president for hotel properties, will leave in May to pursue another career in the hospitality industry. Unlike in 1993, when top level posts were reorganized under then-new President Robert Wilburn, officials say the recent changes aren't linked to any plan to streamline management.
