WIFE CHARGED IN MAN'S DEATH

A Portsmouth woman was arrested and charged Monday in the shooting death of her husband, police said.

The shooting happened just before 3:30 p.m. at the couple's home in 150 block of Choate St., which is near the Douglas Park section of the city. Vernon Alexander Jones apparently was shot after an argument with his wife, said police spokeswoman Amber Whittaker.

Jones, 50, was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.

His wife, Rose Outland Jones, was later arrested without incident at the home. Jones, 39, was charged with murder and using a firearm in a felony. She was being held in the Portsmouth City Jail.
