The local affiliate of Interfaith Television has given its annual ``ITV Award'' to The Virginian-Pilot's religion columnist, Betsy Mathews Wright, for promoting and representing interfaith communication, understanding and tolerance in Hampton Roads.
The award was given to Wright at the group's yearly celebration dinner, Thursday at Virginia Wesleyan College. ``One of our main goals is to make the faith community more visible within Hampton Roads,'' said Executive Director Susan Black. ``We are a very diverse group - we have a nice mix of clergy and laity - and we try to get local churches and synagogues and other houses of faith to produce and develop television shows on Cox channel 39.''
Wright has written her weekly religion column, ``Issues of Faith,'' since April 1991. It appears each Saturday in The Daily Break section of The Virginian-Pilot.
The area's Interfaith Television affiliate produces two local shows: ``Focus on Faith,'' a weekly interview program, and ``The Faith and Values Forum,'' a panel discussion program produced monthly.
National programs include a daily Roman Catholic Mass, United Methodist worship services, Mormon Tabernacle Choir presentations, and ``Jewish Chronicles.''
Interfaith Television is shown on Cox Cable channels 39 and 11. ILLUSTRATION: Betsy Mathews Wright, honored for promoting tolerance,
