A five-week course on the Holocaust will be offered June 24-July 29 at Tidewater Community College, Portsmouth campus.
The class, taught by David Perrich, a retired Navy officer, will focus on the events that led up to the Holocaust and what allowed it to happen.
Students will learn how millions of Jews were killed by Nazi Germany during World War II, how they were crowded into freight cars and carried to concentration camps such as Auschwitz, Dachau and Buchenwald.
The course will weave philosophy, theology, psychology and history into a look at the history of anti-Semitism, moral dilemmas and the Holocaust's impact on subsequent generations.
Perrich started reading about the Holocaust in the 1970s and developed a deep personal interest in it, according to information provided by TCC. He has read about 30 books on the subject and has been in contact with officials of the Holocaust Museum in Washington. by CNB
