The Filipino American National Historical Society of Hampton Roads welcomed school Superintendent Timothy R. Jenney to town at a Sunday reception that attracted more than 100 people.
The idea behind the reception was to introduce Jenney to one of the city's largest constituencies, said Allan L. Bergano, a dentist and the local group's president and founder.
The group promotes Filipino-American culture and serves as a resource for those interested in learning about Filipino-American culture.
Jenney said he relished chances to greet residents.
``I was very appreciative of the opportunity to meet with a segment of the community that has such an important role in the success of our schools via their children,'' he said.
The group also thanked several area institutions and city residents for efforts to make the public more aware of Filipino-Americans' contributions. by CNB
