A minister died Wednesday when his church caught fire and burned in the Richneck area of Newport News.
The Rev. Freddie Bunch was in the Denbigh Assembly of God Church at 128 Deal Drive when the fire broke out about 8 a.m. Bunch, 46, died at the scene. He had been with the church 10 years.
Newport News Fire Marshal R.L. Ware Jr. said the city Fire Department was called about 8a.m. Ware said that when firefighters arrived at 8:10 a.m. they saw heavy fire from the top floor of the two-story building. The fire was under control, Ware said, by 8:32a.m.
The cause of the fire was undetermined. An investigation is continuing, Ware said. by CNB
