Mildred Marie Farr Shield, 81, of the 600 block of Partridge Ave., died May 9, 1996.
She was a retired hair dresser and a native of Norfolk. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Shield was a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Elmira Elizabeth Tent (NU)364.
She is survived by her husband, Bishop John Davis Shield; daughter, Renee Shield-Eure of Chesapeake; two stepdaughters, Kay Lee of Suttland, Md., and Delores Wooten-Broddock of Pennsylvania; a god-son, Melvin Baker Jr. of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy Todd and Hattie Farr, both of Norfolk; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday by the Rev. Robert G. Murray in First Baptist Church, 418 E. Bute St., Norfolk. Burial will be in Roosevelt Cemetery. An Eastern Star service will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, today at 5:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at other times at 1210 Welles Court, Chesapeake.
