EVELYN B. BRATTEN

Evelyn Marie Basnight Bratten, 73, died May 11, 1996, at her residence.

Mrs. Bratten was born in East Lake, N.C., and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Manns Harbor. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Stanford Basnight and the late Mariah Smith Basnight and the wife of the late Herbert Hoover Bratten.

She is survived by two daughters, Violet McCranie of Paris Island, S.C., and Kay Twiford of Manteo; two sons, Donnie Bratten of Winterville, N.C., and Linwood ``Buster'' Bratten of Manns Harbor; a sister, Janet Creef of Virginia Beach; four brothers, Jesse Basnight and Aubrey Basnight of East Lake and Talmadge and Reid Basnight of Elizabeth City, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jim Tosto. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel UMC Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo.
