Investigators were expecting to make an arrest this week in connection with a two-alarm fire that gutted three Brambleton area homes and displaced six people Saturday afternoon. No one was injured.
Jack Goldhorn, a spokesman for Norfolk fire and paramedical services, said the blaze was the result of arson, but the cause was still under investigation.
There were two people living in each building, Goldhorn said. They were being aided by the American Red Cross and could not be reached for comment.
The wood construction of the homes acted ``like a natural smokestack,'' Goldhorn said, and quickly spread to the other buildings.
Investigators said the blaze erupted on the first floor of one building, which later had to be demolished. The third building was not as heavily damaged, but it is not habitable, he said. The other gutted building also was uninhabitable.
