TEEN APPARENTLY DROWNED

A teenager's death over the weekend is being investigated as an accidental drowning.

Police divers found the body of Alvin J. Richardson, 15, in Lake Meade Sunday evening after searching for a little more than an hour. Police were contacted about 4:30 p.m. after a pair of shoes and sweat pants were found near the water's edge in the Riverview section.

Richardson lived in the 100 block of North Broad Street, about six blocks from the accident site. He had been seen sitting on the lake bank about noon, said police spokesman Mike Simpkins. His pants legs appeared wet, as if he had been wading, Simpkins said.

Richardson, a ninth-grader at Lakeland High School, could not swim and apparently got into water over his head, Simpkins said.
