I was sad to read about the fire that killed five people and injured several others at the fraternity house at UNC. But sadness turned to anger as I read the last paragraph of the May 13 article. For some reason, the writer thought it appropriate to mention that the same fraternity was on suspension for mailing out a ``sexually explicit letter to prospective recruits.'' He then went on to briefly describe the letter.
Now I am not going to tell you that there aren't disciplinary problems in some fraternities - of course there are. Sexism is a problem that plagues every institution in America. But what did mentioning the suspension of the fraternity have to do with the story of five people dying in a fire? It seemed to me that the writer was ``kicking them when they were already down.''
