VERNON EDWARDS

Vernon Edwards, 76, of the 2400 block of Ludlow St., died May 14, 1996, at DePaul Medical Center.

Mr. Edwards, the widower of Thelma Alston Edwards, was a mechanic for ILA Local 1248 and Norfolk Naval Base. He was born in Conway, N.C., and was an active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Norfolk. He was a member of Lindenwood Civic League.

Survivors include three daughters, Cynthia Fields of Manteo, N.C., Dianne Thompson of Norfolk and Veronica Haynes of Chesapeake; a sister, Nettie Forriest of Conway; six grandchildren; four nephews; four nieces; and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Nettie Powell and James L. Edwards; and a brother, Perry Edwards.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday by Dr. John Davis at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Norfolk. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a wake Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the chapel at Hale Funeral Home. The remains will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Monday. Family and friends will assemble at 2418 Ludlow St., for the funeral procession at noon Monday.
