HOLIDAY MIGHT BE MEMORABLE FOR ITS WEATHER

Memorial Day weekend doesn't look bright for beach-goers, thanks to sporadic thunderstorms and clouds expected over the three-day holiday.

Forecasters are calling for clouds today with a 30 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms. On Sunday, rain is likely with a 60 percent chance of showers and possible thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

The high today is expected to reach 70, and the low in the upper 50s.

Sunday should be cooler with a high in the upper 60s and a low in the mid-50s.

On Memorial Day, the temperature will reach near 70, with some clouds, and possible thunderstorms.

Some Chesapeake residents got a quick hit of some out-of-the-ordinary precipitation Friday afternoon when a hailstorm came and lasted about 20 minutes.

About 4:30, resident David Sannon said, he and his wife watched hail - ranging in size from about a quarter to a large, 50-cent piece - pelt their home and yard on Ballahack Road, south of Great Bridge.

``I've never seen anything like it in my life,'' Sannon said. ``It was a beautiful sight.'' by CNB
