Isaiah Montgomery Jr., of the 1000 block of Chesterfield Terrace, died May 23, 1996, in a local hospital.
Mr. Montgomery, a native of Sumter, S.C., retired from the U.S. Navy as a boatswain's mate after 20 years of service. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Charlene Montgomery; a son, Isaiah Montgomery III of Chesapeake; two daughters, Crystal L. Wright and Teresa Y. Montgomery, both of Sumter; his mother, Para Lee Montgomery of Sumter; a grandson, Thomas Wright Jr. of Sumter; three brothers, Major Joshua Montgomery of Virginia Beach, Ray Montgomery of Decatur, Ga., Bernard Montgomery of Sumter; six sisters, Charlene Lewis of Anchorage, Alaska, Linda Canty of Lompoc, Calif., Emma Hastie of Deltona, Fla., Thomasenia Tillman of Seymour Johnson AFB, N.C., Visla Ealy of Charlotte, N.C., and Lisa Dupont of Columbia, S.C. He also leaves a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Isaiah Montgomery Sr.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday by the Rev. Darryl Scott at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial. There will be a wake from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Graves Funeral Home Chapel. The remains will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. the day of the service.
