Ronald Stanton Smith, 70, of the 3200 block of Hemlock Drive, died May 23, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. Smith, a native of Glens Falls, N.Y., retired from General Electric Co. in 1986 as a senior purchasing agent. He was a graduate of Syracuse University School of Engineering; a member and chairman of Chesapeake Branch of the Elfun Society; member of Partnerships in Education-The Great Computer Challenge; and a CPR instructor for the American Red Cross. He was a volunteer emergency medical technician for the city of Chesapeake. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol and Silverwood Neighborhood Watch. Mr. Smith delivered meals for Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Virginia Smith; two daughters, Marcia S. Buck of Alexandria, Va., and Margaret D. Jones; a brother, Roswel Smith of Nanuet, N.Y.; and four grandchildren, Michelle Jones, Jessica Jones, Dakota Jones and Karalyn Jones.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday by Chaplain Ernest J. Etheridge at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel. Burial will be private. The family requests memorial donations be made to city of Chesapeake, Emergency Medical Services Program.
